Working directly with farmers across the North York Moors, we transform locally sourced fleece into beautifully crafted tweeds and throws inspired by the colours and textures of the Moors. Every collection carries the story of the land, the flocks, and the farming families behind it.
North York Moors Tweed was made possible through funding from the Farming in Protected Landscape grant, a DEFRA fund, administered by the North York Moors National Park Authority.
We are working to restore value, dignity, and purpose to British wool by working directly with farmers of the North York Moors, transforming fleece into tweed and throws. We exist to see British wool valued again—properly, fairly, and with pride—where every fleece carries meaning, and every farming family is supported for the work they do. Our aim is to strengthen rural craftsmanship rather than lose it, and to ensure the North York Moors continues to be shaped by the people who know it best
Every thread is designed to reflect the natural palette of our home, drawing from the heather purples, bracken browns, stone greys, and sky blues found across the National Park. To keep our carbon footprint low, we work exclusively with local mills and heritage weavers who understand the nuances of high-quality sustainable production. Looking ahead, we aim to expand this vision over the next five years by creating fifteen individual collections, such as Helmsley and Westerdale, that celebrate the distinct character of each local dale.
Place-Led - The weather, terrain, and farming practices of the Moors directly shape the wool, the colours we use, and the character of every collection we create.
Fairness - We work directly with farmers and paying above-market rates for their wool, ensuring more of the value stays within the rural communities that produce it. Fairness is not an add on—it is central to how we operate.
Heritage - We are guided by generations of farming knowledge and tradition. The skills, stories, and practices passed down through families on the Moors are part of what gives this work its meaning.
Sustainability - We work with natural fibres that are renewable, biodegradable, and closely tied to the land they come from. By partnering with local mills, we reduce unnecessary transport and support lower-impact production methods.
Integrity of Craft - From raw fleece to finished cloth, every stage is approached with care and respect. We value skilled hands, careful processes,
and considered design. Nothing is rushed or mass-produced; each piece is the result of attention, patience, and pride in the craft itself.
